A step by step guide

Step 1: Meeting with the genetic counsellor. The genetic counsellor will discuss the study, fragile X syndrome and genetic testing for fragile X syndrome. If you have any further questions or concerns please call one of the genetic counsellors in the study team.

Step 2: Deciding whether to have the test. Decide if you wish to have the genetic carrier test for fragile X syndrome. You may wish to read over the Participant Information and the Brochure again to help you make your decision. If you are having any problems deciding or have any questions please call the one of the genetic counsellors in the study team.

Take as long as you need to decide. It is entirely up to you whether to have the test or not.

Step 3: Completing the questionnaire. Please complete the questionnaire, regardless of whether or not you decide to have testing.

Step 4: Collecting the sample. If you have decided to have the genetic carrier test you will need to do the following:

  • Fill out the genetic carrier test for fragile X syndrome consent form.
  • Collect your saliva sample.

Step 5: Postage.

  • If you have decided not to have the test: place your questionnaire and unused sample kit into the reply paid envelope and post by regular mail.
  • If you have decided to have the test: place your questionnaire, your consent form and the sample kit into the reply paid envelope. Post by regular mail.
