Genetic carrier testing - Instructions for collecting the saliva sample

Genetic carrier testing - Instructions for collecting the saliva sample Do not eat, drink, smoke or chew gum for 30 minutes before giving your saliva sample.

  1. Spit saliva into the empty white container
  2. Spit until the amount of liquid saliva (not bubbles) reaches at least the level shown in picture 2.
  3. Put the container on a flat surface. Cap the white container with the blue lid.
  4. Tighten the lid firmly and mix gently by tipping upside down two or three times.

Notes:

  • Do not ingest the liquid in the blue lid.
  • Wash with water if this liquid comes into contact with the eyes or skin.
  • Do NOT remove plastic film from the blue lid.
  • To make more saliva, close your mouth and wiggle your tongue or rub your cheeks. Some people find it easier to spit more if they place a teaspoon of plain white sugar on their tongue.
  • Finish spitting within 30 minutes.
